At the beginning of each month, I'll post a few goals that I am going to work on during the month and then I will check back in at the end of the month (and maybe halfway through) to update you on how it went/it's going. My plan is right now to make these goals both for my physical health and mental health but also just some fun ones. If you want you should join me in my goals or make a a goal or two of your own for the month.
Goal 1: Meatless Month
I've been thinking about doing this for awhile but I'm finally taking the plunge. Watch out! The main reason holding me back before was that I was worried about consuming enough protein while training for my triathlon. I also felt like it ate up so much of my time that I needed quick, convenient meals as well. I'm looking forward to switching up my normal meal schedule a bit. I'll hopefully be posting some new recipes this month of vegetarian meals!
Goal 2: No more pop
So I sort of already started this one before September (two pop-free weeks already!) but I am going to include it in here because it's still a challenge. The only time I really want it is when I hit that afternoon slump at about 3-4 pm. I think I might just not be getting enough quality sleep at night because I have a problem with going to bed at a reasonable time. Dang Netflix shows that I want to keep watching all night.
I actually just read an article in the paper today about the amount of pop Americans are drinking in the Sun-Times. One of the most interesting facts was this one
One in 20 people drinks the equivalent of more than four cans of pop each day, even though health officials say sweetened beverages should be limited to less than half a can.
Talk about over doing it.
Goal 3: Strength train 3x a week
I've already started this goal by completing a strength training workout last night! I used to be really good about doing several strength workouts a week. Unfortunately, this was when I lived in Iowa City and had Laura to lift with. It's so much harder to get motivated to lift by myself. My goal is to do at least 30 minutes of strength training three times a week. I have a feeling this is going to vary between P90x, classes at my gym, lifting some weights at home, and maybe some of the Fitnessista's Summer Shape-Up workouts. <-Those things kick my bootay.
Goal 4: Read a book
That brain of mine needs some exercising as well. What?! Staring at the computer screen doesn't count? Uh, no. I've been reading the same book since about March so it's time to finish that baby off. And maybe after that I can go get a library card. It's been too long.
Goal 5: Volunteer
I feel like I've been mentioning this a lot on here lately, but I really want to find a
volunteer opportunity. Even if it's just for a few hours, I want to do something.
Five goals is a good starting place! I'll let you know how it's going.
What is your September goal?
