What's new?

Summer is in full swing around these parts and I've certainly been enjoying all the nice weather!  My deck garden is really thriving this year.  I have 2 tomato plants - a regular and  patio cherry plant, 2 bell pepper plants, one flower pot with geranium, Gerbera daisies, and a dahlia,  and finally an herb pot with basil, sage and chives.

The challenge is remembering to water them everyday, unless of course it rains, because if they don't get water they are all droopy and sad by the end of the day.

A few weekends ago, Matt and I took a short trip to Door County for the Peninsula Classic Spring Bike Ride.  Holly got to visit Shel-Ray Pet Chalet and came back home smelling fresh as a daisy with a new bandanna plus freshly trimmed nails.  And yes, those are elephants!

Speaking of the bike ride, my mother-in-law gifted me an awesome new bike jersey! I received a ton of compliments

My sister- in-law got married 2 weeks ago.  I have a bunch of hilarious pictures from the wedding because I was rocking the selfie stick.  Maybe I'll get around to sharing those later, but for now here's a picture from her bridal shower.

Back to the Grind

Today marks 16 weeks to my next half Ironman--either Racine or Door County I haven't decided which yet.  So that means it's back to the training grind.  It's been a long off season which is code for I've been really lazy.

If only walking the dog counted as mileage or vigorous exercise.

My focus this year is consistency.  Getting in workouts on a day-to-day basis.  In past seasons, I'll do good for a few days but then I get off-track and take 2-3 days off.  I want to squeeze workouts in even if I can't get the whole workout in at least I can build some consistency in my workouts.

I'd like to start checking these off.

Plus I'd like to work on getting a more consistent schedule.  Having a different plan every day doesn't work well for me, making my workouts a regular habit in my day.  This means saying "no" more often.  Especially lately saying "no" at work more often especially so to additional projects or helping out teammates when I already have my plate full.

So back to the grind.  I am off to a great start with a 40 minute bike ride and 20 minutes of yoga.

Five Things Friday

1.  I've been having some pretty rough weeks at work lately due mostly to just too much to do and not enough time to do them.  I've been working super late and it's got me a little down.  It's been a bit better this week and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

2.  Part of the reason it's been better this week is because my husband has been gone on a work trip (he's back now YAY!).  That means I have to leave work by 6 pm at the latest so I can get home to Holly.  It's a good excuse to leave work!

3. Speaking of Holly, her favorite chapstick is the EOS egg lip balms.  How do I know?  Because this is the second one she's eaten.  She really doesn't eat too many things that she isn't supposed to but lip balm is just irresistible, I guess. The part that makes me mad is that I was home when she did this riding my bike in the other room.

4.  Matt is travelling more because he got a new job! Same company this time, just a new role.  It's only been 1.5 weeks but so far he is enjoying it.  This is his 6th job since college and I am still at the same old job.

5. I saw this sign on my way to work last week.  I thought it was hilarious and took a picture.  If you can't see it, it says "Congrats! You made it out of bed!"  That week, getting out of bed was an accomplishment.
